Vet. Asstistant or Medical Administrative Assistant?

The Vet. Asst. course is only 102 hours with 30 hours clinical training. The Med. Adm. Asst. courses are gonna take 2 years to complete.Can anyone tell me their experience with these jobs? Whats the pros and cons? Salary? Hours?Im asking about hours cuz I have a 5yr.old son and my classes/work would have to be mostly daytime.
I really want to be a Vet. Asst.at least to try it out and see if its something I want to do long term. I want to do it so much that Im considering volunteering at the SPCA. Im only 23 so Im not 100%sure what I want to do forever, but I have to be extra responsible about my choices because of my son.

Veterinary technologists and technicians typically conduct clinical work in a private practice under the supervision of a veterinarian, do about the same work, even though the technologists requires 4 years of college and the technicians only requires 2 years. Usually full-time tech’s work 40 hours a week, and this is what they make on the average, according the the US Dept of Labor: $11.99 an hour or $24,939 a year in May 2004.
To become a medical assistant, you can take a year or 2 year program, usually work 40 hours a week in a medical office, and make about the same as a vet tech, $11.83 an hour in May 2004 or $24,610 a year.
You’ll have to think about what you would prefer to do the most, since they make about the same amount of pay and take about the same amount of time to get the required training.
