Jobs in the medical field are always in demand. If you go for the medical assistant, they teach you both front and back office, as well as lab work, etc. They are always in demand at clinics as well as some hospitals. The training is usually only 8 or 9 months long, and you learn a lot.
If you go for that, and work in a clinic, they may train you as a medical office specialist there…hopefully.
Whatever you choose, make sure it’s something you’ll enjoy=D
Well I’d unfortunately heard here and on other boards that there are not too many jobs for the medical assistant (most likely the same as a clinical medical assistant program) or medical office specialist (basically medical office assistant) despite what those expensive career schools proclaim. And just fyi, the medical billers and coders are also having a difficult time finding work and coders need to have a couple years experience doing coding tasks in addition to certification(s) in order to work as a coder. If still wanting to go for any of those programs, please look into the county vo-tech school or community college (perhaps non-credit course) as it may be a lot more affordable.
For US colleges:
For general career info: and can search ‘medical assistants’, ‘licensed practical nurses’ or such.
If you can, train for medical assisting. They will teach you both clinical and administrative skills, and you will have a higher chance for employment if you are cross-trained to do both. Also, check with your local community college to see if it offers a medical assisting program. It takes about the same time to complete as a career college program, but it will save you a ton of money. Even with financial aid, career college can still be very pricey.
