MANY people become an MA so that while they are in Nursing School, they can get experience and have a job in the health field.
You are not making a mistake. Finish out the MA course and get a job.
Then, start taking your RN college courses. You are on the right path. Don’t give up. Remember that almost all RN schools have 1-3 year waiting lists, and so your working as an MA is a great idea.
Yes, you are absolutely right about doing hair on the side. You can make lots of money doing this, and you will love what you are doing.
You’re headed in the right direction and the fact that you put lots of thought into this says that you are doing it for all the right reasons. Good luck!
I’m a Certified Medical Assistant and this could have been the best choice I ever made. I got my MA in 2006 and I work as a CMA for a year then I went into clinical/pharmaceutical research as a Clinical Trials Assistant. You should continue because it can take you many places in the health care field.
I have a stylist who is going to school to be a medical assistant! Then when she finishes, she will continue doing hair 2-3 days/wk.
Your reasons for your choices are very practical & sensible.
Follow your path & do hair on the side.
My best to you
Medical Assisant is better!! Medical assistants dont make that much money in an average clinic, but if you get a job in a high class place you will get a good job. My friend is a medical assistant and she got hired without experience in a Lasik Surgery place and got started at 18 dollars an hour!!
Being a RN/MSN I will say this. With the economy being what it is these days, You really want to go where the money is. Having your hair done is great and necessary but at times is something that we can do without, especially when there is no money. But I can assure you that you will never go wrong in the medical field. That is the one thing that I am certain of. I will always have work. If I want to take time off for myself I can and when I am ready to go back I can also. No trouble finding a job at all.As a matter of fact you will find them fighting over you.
It is important to do what makes you happy. to be able to walk in the door where you work with a smile on your face. I love my job. I have been smiling about it for more than 20yrs.
There is a nurse where I work and he is also a hair dresser. He only Works as a nurse for 3 /12 hr shifts a week and the rest of the time he cuts hair. So there is the best of both worlds.
